Government Launches New Logo for the Nusantara Capital

Jakarta, Tangerangtalk.Online - President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, unveiled the new logo for the Nusantara Capital (IKN) with the theme "Tree of Life" at the State Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday (May 30, 2023). The new logo was chosen by the public from five design nominations that were open for selection from April 4 to May 20, 2023.

"In the name of God, I hereby launch the logo of the Nusantara Capital," said the President in his speech.

The President emphasized that the selected logo was chosen by the people, saying, "So it was not the President who chose it, be careful, it was the people who chose it, and the number of voters was in the hundreds of thousands, a significant number."

Previously, the public had the opportunity to directly choose one logo out of five design nominations. Based on the final results of the competition on May 20, 2023, the total number of voters reached 500,260. The voters came from various provinces in Indonesia, such as West Java, East Java, Central Java, DKI Jakarta, Banten, North Sumatra, Bali, East Kalimantan, Yogyakarta Special Region, and South Sulawesi.

The President expressed hope that the new logo would inspire the Nusantara Capital to create a new source of life. "The selected logo with the theme 'Tree of Life' was designed by Mas Aulia Akbar. This tree of life represents life, and we all hope that this logo will inspire the Nusantara Capital to create a new place of life for all of us, which will be the source of life for the entire Indonesian community," he said.

During the launch of the new logo, the Head of the Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN), Bambang Susantono, reported to the President that the selection of the new logo was a form of public participation in the preparation and development of the Nusantara Capital.

"This is in accordance with the President's direction to build a strong sense of ownership of our Nusantara capital as a reflection of a city built collectively by the entire Indonesian community," said the Head of OIKN.

"That is why we use #NusantaraKita because we are Nusantara," he added.

The process began in September 2022, with an open announcement by the Indonesian Graphic Design Association (ADGI), as the partner of OIKN in this process. More than 500 designers participated in the open announcement. From all the registered designers, the ADGI Curatorial Board curated 10 designers to participate in the logo design process.

The designs were based on the "curatorial corridor" prepared by the Curatorial Board, which focused on the spirit of diversity within unity, the spirit of togetherness and ownership, and the maritime spirit.

Out of the 10 logos created by the designers, the President selected the top 5 logos and directed for an open voting process that could be participated by the public at large. The online voting took place from April 4 to May 20, 2023.

"Throughout this process, a series of roadshows were conducted to various communities and media, as well as presentations and public discussions for the designers of the five logos through digital channels," said the Head of OIKN.

The entire process was supported by the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Kominfo), Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI), and Telkomsel, including promoting these five logos through the communication networks of BNI and Telkomsel.

The selected designer, Aulia Akbar, who is a member of the ADGI Bandung chapter, expressed his happiness with the results of the competition. "It is a pride to be able to contribute to the development of the new capital, which is a historic moment for the Indonesian nation. Hopefully, this visual identity can convey the spirit of Nusantara to the entire Indonesian community," he said.

This logo is inspired by the tree of life as a source of life, with its five roots representing Pancasila, seven trunks representing the major islands in Indonesia, and 17 blooming flowers symbolizing eternal independence.

On the same occasion, the President of Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI), Royke Tumilaar, expressed the company's honor to be part of the logo selection process for the Nusantara Capital. "This IKN logo has gone through a creative process that involved talented young Indonesians. We are honored to contribute to the history of creating the logo for the Nusantara Capital," he said.

Beyond just the logo, BNI is currently preparing various banking solutions needed to accelerate the development of the Nusantara Capital, making it a center for national economic growth.

As a bank that proactively undergoes digital transformation, BNI has been involved in the development of digital-based worker housing ecosystems, including the issuance of the BNI Multifunction Card.

The BNI Multifunction Card serves as a means of payment and transactions at construction worker housing sites, providing benefits for payroll, worker identification, payment instruments, and financial transactions, thus creating a cashless society.

In the logo design competition, the Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) collaborated with the Indonesian Graphic Design Association (ADGI) and Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI). Over 500 designers participated in the open call process, where the curatorial board selected 10 designers to participate in the visual identity design process based on the curatorial corridor prepared by the Curatorial Board and the Design Expert Team.

In addition to announcing the winner of the logo competition, the results of the draw for 10 electric motorcycles were also announced on the same day. The 10 winners will be contacted by the committee to receive the electric motorcycles, which will be signed by President Joko Widodo.
